Before the federal law banning sports betting was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, Oregon already had laws permitting some forms of sports betting, but these forms were scuttled by the state itself to lure NCAA championship events to Oregon. So, while there are no forms of sports betting yet, prepare for virtual sports betting – a random numbers game akin to Keno in 2019, and real sports betting in Oregon by 2020. It is not clear yet whether the Lottery would be the only state outlet offering sports betting, or if Tribal Casinos will be permitted to offer it as well.

The second is Daily Fantasy Sports on sites like DraftKings and FanDuel. Everything else, including online poker, and online sports betting, is still illegal.

When will Oregon have Online Gambling?

There is no current legislation in place to fully legalize online gambling but the current laws on the books in Oregon are confusing at best. There are laws directed at online gambling but the forms of gambling that will get you in trouble are a bit complicated. Section 167.109 states that “it is a felony to accept payments from a person who is participating in unlawful Internet gambling”. That being said, there are no parts of the law that directly criminalize individuals gambling online. Oregon does not restrict any kind of online betting that is legal on the federal level.
